I just received the sweetest fan mail:

Dear Ms. Begum,

I am a student at Fordham University in Bronx, New York. I am 19 years old and am from Chicago. You inspire me. Everything about your life is beautiful. For years I have dreamed of escaping this urbanized American culture to experience something more, to gain invaluable perspective of a different way of life. I want to see America through a different lens, and experience the world with a greater insight. I know it is likely you will not read this and you may not respond, but you if you do, I would be incredibly grateful if you shared with me your story. I can only imagine you got to where you are with pure raw talent and a great will, but if you can offer any guidance it would be much appreciated. I fear that I will go through college hoping to reach my dreams at the end of it all, but along the way they will become jaded and my aspirations will be far less grand. I hope to some day live among people of different cultures and ways of life as you have, that is why I am currently study
ing anthropology. Though I am still restless and I will do everything I can to avoid living a sheltered American life.

I hope to hear from you Ms. Begum. If not I would like you to know I am a fan of your work, and I hope the best for you and all your future endeavors.

Sincerely,
Carla Salvadori-Black
